SIGHT x HVTO Hygiene Project
Good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and the development of children in village. According to UNICEF, for children under 5, hygiene-related diseases are one of the leading causes of death in developing countries. And very often, educational resources and government schemes are insufficient to make a significant change in villagers' hygiene.
To empower the community to shore up their disease prevention efforts, Hygiene & Education team from SIGHT, HKUST designed a hygiene curriculum to provide classes to teachers and students in HVTO Center (Sponsored by Seal of Love Charitable Foundation) in Cambodia and also set up soap making workshop with the villagers there. The hygiene curriculum covers topics like What are germs, The importance of hand washing, Steps of hand washing, How to stop germs from spreading and Various ways to brush teeth.
